Different types of sports in INDIA

In a country like INDIA different people involve in different sports .Few sports are in spotlight and large number of sports are in the backside due to lack of exposer ,money etc.Some of them are international ,national and few traditional.

Traditional and regional sports:-

Gilli-danda
Young boys playing Gilli-danda, a traditional Indian sport.
Gilli-danda is a sport played by using one small stick (gilli) and a large stick (danda) like cricket with ball being replaced by gilli. It is still played in villages of Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra states of India only as a recreational sport among boys.

Kancha
Kancha is played by using marbles, popular in cities as well as villages by small boys only as a gully sport. The winner gets the kancha of other boys.

Kite flying
Kite flying is played by many people in India in cities as well as villages. The festival of Makar Sankranti is marked with competitions of this sport.

Other popular regional sports

Other regional sports and games namely air sports, atya patya, bridge, carrom, cycle polo, fencing, gymnastics, judo, karate, Gatka, kho-kho, mallakhamb, roller skating, rowing, shooting ball, soft tennis, squash, swimming, taekwondo, ten-pin bowling, tennikoit, tug of war, yachting, and yoga have dedicated following and their own national sports federations.

Last but not in the list the biggest event  "king of all sports " athletics,track and field also popular in india.(100m,200m,long jump,high jump,etc..)

For improvement in INDIAN sports  govt and the sports authority of india have been organizing different types of national and international competition or league i.e.

Indian Premier League (IPL) (Cricket)
I-League (Association football)
Chennai open(Tennis)

Other Sports Leagues:-

World Series Hockey (WSH) (Field hockey)
Professional Golf Tour of India (Golf)
All India & South Asia Rugby Tournament (Rugby union)
National Ice Hockey Championships (Ice hockey)
Elite Football League of India (American football)
Ranji Trophy (First-Class Cricket)

Apart from this leagues many domestic or you can say state level tournaments are there like KOLKATA football  league(FOOTBALL),GOA league(FOOTBALL).
